How To Create Your Wild Places Webpage

We've tried to make the creation of your WILD PLACES webpage as intuitive as possible. However, we've also created this handy guide just in case you need a little extra guidance. So here we go.....

How to find your WILD PLACES profile page...

1. Go to the Wildlife Whisperer website www.wildlifewhisperer.tv

2.  Log in to your account (you’ll find a Login link at the top right of every page on the website).

3.  Enter your email address and password, then press the Login button.

You should now see your ‘My Account’ page. Available subscriptions are displayed on the right of the page under the heading ‘Your Subscriptions’. Click on ‘Edit Profile’ under the appropriate subscription. You should now be able to see ‘Your WILD PLACES Membership Profile’ page.

How to complete your WILD PLACES profile page...

The information you enter here will be used to create your WILD PLACES webpage as part of our WILD PLACES map. Below is a description of how to complete each part of your profile page.

Logo/Avatar: This image will appear on the pop up bubble on the map (which appears when someone clicks on your location) and the top of your WILD PLACES webpage. Most WILD PLACES members use their logo or an image of their location. What you use however is up to you. Ideally the image needs to be 75px X 50px. If you are unsure how to resize an image take a look at www.resizeyourimage.com.

Organisation Name Or Place Name: This will appear as the first line of your address on your WILD PLACES webpage.

Your Web Address: Add your web address here. Remember to include the http:// at the beginning of your web address.

Email: Add a contact email address if you have one. You can leave this blank if you wish.

Phone: Add a contact telephone number here. It’s always a good idea to include the full international dialling code too as many of our web visitors are from all over the world. Click here for international dialling codes http://www.countrycallingcodes.com/

Add Your Address: This is one of the most important parts of your profile page as this will define where your pin appears on the WILD PLACES map. Add as much info as you can and then press the ‘Find On Map’ button. You should now see a pin positioned in the appropriate location on the map to the right of the page.

You can click and drag this pin to the exact location (if needed) by placing the cursor over the pin and then click and hold the left mouse button. Move your mouse to reposition the pin. Release the mouse button to drop the pin.

Categories: This section is also very important as this is where you select which headings your location appears under. You can choose multiple categories but it’s important that you only select categories specifically relevant to your location. Selecting a category that doesn’t represent your location is likely to frustrate the map visitor and they are less likely to click through to your location.

As you click on each category it will expand to display a full list of options. It will also indicate if there are any limitations on how many options you can select under each category. Simply click on an option to select/deselect.

Wild Places Map Tags: Adding carefully selected keywords here can greatly increase the number of searches your location appears on.

TOP TIP: We recommend including the following tags….
•    Include your place name (e.g. Rose Cottage)
•    Include the name of any notable wildlife that may be observed nearby
•    Include names of any landmarks very close by

Separate each tag/keyword with a comma (,). You can use up to two words for each tag. Here is a typical set of tags (Rose Cottage, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Robin, Badger, Fox, River Allen)

Gallery: The Gallery allows you to upload up to 15 images and 3 videos. Select whether you want to upload images or videos by clicking on the appropriate tab.

Images: To upload an image, simply click on the ‘Browse’ button and select an image from your computer. A thumbnail of the image should appear under the ‘Browse’ button once uploaded. For best results we recommend resizing images to 460pixels X 345 pixels and less than 300kB. To delete an image simply place the cursor over the appropriate thumbnail and click on the small red icon that appears.

Videos: To add videos to your WILD PLACES webpage you first need to upload your videos to Youtube. Once uploaded to Youtube, either copy the URL for your video (found at the top right of your browser page) or click on the ‘Share’ button below your video. Make sure you select the ‘Long Link’ option (You can find this by clicking on the ‘Show Options’ link at the end of the ‘Short Link’. If you do not select the long url your video will not load correctly on your WILD PLACES webpage.

To delete a video simply place the cursor over the appropriate thumbnail and click on the small red icon that appears.

Twitter Username: Twitter is a great way to generate extra interest in your location and increase traffic to your website. Add your twitter name here and all your latest tweets will automatically appear on your WILD PLACES webpage. Leave blank if you don’t use Twitter.

Facebook: If your location or organisation has a Facebook page add the URL here (remember to include the http:// at the beginning). A Facebook button will automatically be added to your WILD PLACES webpage.

Latest Events: If your website has an ‘Events’ page add the URL here (remember to include the http:// at the beginning). This will automatically add an ‘Events’ button to your WILD PLACES webpage. Leave blank if your website doesn’t have an ‘Events’ page.

Latest Events: If your website has a ‘Latest Offers’ page add the URL here (remember to include the http:// at the beginning). This will automatically add a ‘Latest Offers’ button to your WILD PLACES webpage. Leave blank if your website doesn’t have an ‘Events’ page.

Heading: This is the main heading for your WILD PLACES webpage and will appear directly under the Image/Video Gallery on your WILD PLACES webpage. TOP TIP: As the name of your location already appears at the top of your WILD PLACES webpage why not use this heading as an exciting tag/hook line?

Overview: This is where you add the main description about your location. We recommend keeping any description under 600 words. Include only the information you think is most likely to encourage the viewer to click through to your own website. Remember: The vast majority of our visitors are searching our website and WILD PLACES map because they have a specific interest in wildlife. Try to include any relevant information about the typical wildlife that surrounds your location in your description.

Click on the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the page and that’s it! You can revisit your profile page anytime to update any of the info you just added.
