A New Visitor To The Garden?

I live on the very outskirts of Ipswich in Suffolk and am lucky enough to get quite a varied mix of wildlife visiting the garden.

We often see foxes on the live cams and evidence of their visit (tracks/droppings etc) but never any other large wild mammals, until today that is!

Festival Of Birds At WWT Slimbridge

On Saturday the 4th of February Simon and I set out in sub zero temperatures to visit the Festival of Birds at Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Slimbridge.

The reason for our trip was to open the newly refurbished hide and otter holt kindly sponsored by Zeiss.

The Trust was founded by the late Sir Peter Scott in 1946, and has become famous for its spectacular array of wildfowl including swans, geese and ducks.

BadgerCam - Injured Badger Update 3

Added 3rd Feb to Live Cams - Latest News

It is now thought that our badger has sustained injury from fighting. Our badger continues to come in for food each evening and has a healthy appetite. The individual still has a limp and we are watching this closely.

And this stage we are continuing monitoring over the weekend and I will keep you informed of any developments via the blog.

BadgerCam - Injured Badger Update 2

Added 1st Feb to Live Cams - Latest News

During the last couple of nights we have carefully watched our injured badger's progress.

Our badger continues to feed well and a bowl of water is situated nearby out of camera view and the badger has been drinking well.

The last couple of nights have given us time to watch carefully and it appears to be using the rear leg but carries it in an upward off ground position when trotting or attempting to move at any speed.

Remote cameras allow individuals or groups the chance to observe badger behaviour live in the comfort of their own homes.

The power of modern technology allows these cameras to stream anywhere in the world! Last night the cam provided an invaluable tool and helped to spot a potentially serious situation.

PHOTO Competition - WINNER Announced!

An Otterly Pingtastic day!

On Sunday 4th December, Me, my Dad and Tony (Dad’s friend) set off to Leighton Moss, RSPB Nature Reserve near Carnforth. On our way there we stopped off at Truck haven for a quick sausage butty and there we met our first species, the ever endearing Bullfinch, but now full with our breakfast it was time to go and see some more birds at the reserve.....
