Drytech Real Turmat Foods
Expedition food is notoriously, well, average to say the least. Sure, the dehydrated packs are designed to give you enough calories to survive, even if you are carrying a heavy rucksack, but when it comes down to enjoying a meal, most are sadly lacking in the flavour and texture front. These aren’t.
I have used Drytech Real Turmat foods as my staple diet in the Arctic, the Antarctic, Borneo, Botswana and even Somerset. You can understand someone using a dehydrated meal in the middle of nowhere, but these are so good I sometimes use them as a quick meal when I’m in a rush in the UK. And truth be known, I sometimes brew one up when I have all the time in the world!
The range of flavours is broad, from Chicken Curry and Game Casserole to Beef and Potato Casserole (my favourite!), and includes a veggie option. There are even a couple of breakfast recipes.
Each pack weighs about 150g, so they are easy to carry in your back- pack on a day trip. Preparing the meal couldn’t be easier. Just rip off the top, pour hot water up to the fill line, stir, seal the pack and stand for 5 mins. Then eat straight from the pack. Each dinner meal is enough to make you feel full, (that’s a rarity too in dry pack foods) and has about 500calories, so enough to keep walking up that hill!
Because they are vacuum packed, they keep for ages too (about 5 years), so you can store any you don’t use ready for your next trip.
All that has made me feel peckish!
