John Campbell

Born Wirral, Cheshire (a long time ago)

50 years experience of watching the glorious wildlife we have been blessed with in this country, in particular Wild Otters ( Lutra lutra).

I am a member of the ICUN, "Otter Specialist Group" and operate my own wildlife / otter guiding and consultancy business.

I have been responsible for obtaining otter footage on several high profile TV programs including Springwatch, Autumnwatch, Nature of Britain, Simon Kings Shetland Diaries and Coast.

As a young boy growing up on the Wirral with a small brook leading to open fields at the bottom of my parents garden, this became my personal playground. Fishing for Sticklebacks, watching the wildlife getting on with their day to day life, constantly falling in the water or just paddling about (wellies being a never used option, to the frustration of my mum) I just became fascinated with the wildlife around me. In later years I found out that my little brook had not many years prior been home to some of the last otters seen on the Wirral. I then started to read about these wonderful creatures and the more I read the more fascinated I became. That started me on a journey which has lasted a lifetime observing, photographing and above all, enjoying watching Wild Otters. My fascination (some may say obsession) with these wonderful creatures inevitably led me to the Shetland Isles where I have now lived for the last 18 years.
